MARK'S DAILY THOUGHTS:
November 2006 |
2006-11-01 - Feelings can become a Massive Block
Your feelings can be the most important block you can have in your way to success. How often have you let feelings ("I don't feel like doing that now) stop you from taking action? If you a like the rest of us, "Too Often!". Fight the feelings, take the action, and remove that block today.
2006-11-02 - Act with Purpose
People with purpose will always succeed in life. They know what they want and why they want it. All their actions are consistent with their purpose, and they continually evaluate their focus to ensure their actions remains consistent. Act with purpose today and you will get every success your desire in life.
2006-11-03 - Learn from other People's Experiences
No one can be successful and learn everything on their own. Always look at others and their experience to speed your own learning. Also , read books, attend seminars, etc. When you speed your learning and development, your increase your value in everything your do.
2006-11-04 - One Idea has the Power to transform your Life
There's a saying that to get a great idea, you need to get lots of ideas; and you can apply that saying to your life. It only takes one idea with the power to transform your life. However, you need to continually feed your mind with new ideas all the time to get that powerful one. Do you have the sources in place to continually get those new ideas on a daily basis?
2006-11-05 - Your Attitude is your Window to the World
There's a great way to explain the impact of your attitude. Your attitude is really your window to the world. With a good attitude, your window is crystal clear and your can see all the opportunities that are in front of you. When your attitude is negative and the window is dirty, all you can see is the dirt; and those same opportunities are now hidden from your view. Through which type of window would you like to see your world?
2006-11-06 - Reasons come First, Answers come Second
A good process to use when taking on any new initiative is to create the reasons first, then the answers. The reasons (the why) are the most important factors in creating the emotion and energy behind any new initiative. Once you have the reasons, the answers become easier and almost always you get more creative answers.
2006-11-07 - Listening - The Fuel for Leadership
One of the greatest skills to have to be a successful leader is the skill of listening. The more you listen, the more fuel (information) you get to find the right way to motivate your people. Being a good listener makes your role as a leader much easier.
2006-11-08 - I am Comfortable as long as...
If you are a leader, there is a great way to look at the principles you need to drive your organisation. Basically, your principles should come from answering the question: "I am comfortable for you to do whatever it takes as long as..." Ask yourself this question today. The answers are enlightening.
2006-11-09 - Our Relationships Drive our Happiness
If you think about it, our relationships are what are really driving our happiness. Those productive relationships at work and those loving relationships at home and with friends provide us with all the ingredients of our own happiness. The happiest people see out and develop very healthy and happy relationships.
2006-11-10 - Emotion Attached to your Vision
A vision of what you want is important as it drives your daily actions. The more emotion (why you want it / how you will feel when you get it) you attach to that vision, the more powerful it drives those daily actions. Emotion creates energy and energy drives action. To drive your vision faster, attach more emotion to it.
2006-11-11 - Things don't get better unless we get better
You hear too many people wishing all the time that things would get better (that others would treat them better or that more opportunities would come their way). That's not the way it works. Things do not get better unless we get better. What are your goals to get better?
2006-11-12 - Questions Involve People
The very best leaders are great at asking questions, and great questions at that. Questions invite people to get involved, provide their input, and have a feeling that they are part of what is happening. Ask questions today and involve your people.
2006-11-13 - Opportunity is always mixed with Difficulty
There is never some gain in life without some pain. The bigger the opportunities, the bigger the challenges or difficulties will be in your way. Never expect an easy road, and just think of the difficulties as something that is between you and your goal. That way you always have the expectation that you will find a way through.
2006-11-14 - What You Don't Want!
Ask anyone on the street, and they will be able to give you a long list of what they don't want. Since they are focused on what they don't want (what they want to avoid) they seem to always get it anyway. Why not turn that power around the other way? Focus on what you do want all the time, and just like magic, more of that will appear.
2006-11-15 - The Point is to Wake-up
So many people go through life just going through the motions. They don't really like what they are doing and think either they can't change or think it is just too late to change. However, the real point is to "wake-up" and go for what you really want. It is never too late, as many successful people have made their success very late in their lives.
2006-11-16 - The Burning Desire
To be successful, you really need to want it. Just being interested is never enough, and you need to have a real "Burning Desire" to make happen what you want. If you don't have that burning desire, then spend that time right now to create it. Develop the "why" and picture what you want in your mind with as much detail as you can in order to create the burning desire inside you to go get it.
2006-11-17 - A Little Bit Extra Can Make All the Difference
Take a look at many of the sports. The difference between the athletes who come in first and those in second is sometimes a very small difference. It does not take much of a difference in performance to be #1. Successful people know this and are committed to do that little bit extra that can make all the difference.
2006-11-18 - Your Emotions - The Only Thing in your Way
Successful people have realised something early on in their lives - is that the only thing in their way is their own emotions. Unsuccessful people let their emotions stop them from doing all that is necessary for their success. Overall, it is the ability to handle "Rejection" that separates the successful versus the unsuccessful people. So, don't let your emotions get in your way.
2006-11-19 - People Try to Fix Circumstances, not Cause
We often look to improve our circumstances and don't really address the causes of these circumstances. It is wishful thinking to expect circumstances to change without attacking their causes. Look deep inside yourself and focus on the "cause". If you live "at cause", you will create the circumstances that you desire.
2006-11-20 - Write it Down to be More Creative
People who are the most creative never leave their ideas rolling around in their head. They write them down. The more they write down, the more they see even more ideas based on the linkages and synergies from what they already have written. Write your ideas down to get more creative.
2006-11-21 - Ability to Communicate and Network
As the world is becoming smaller with the communications capabilities and the easy ways of travel, the ability to both communicate and network are becoming even more important. Everything begins and ends with communication, and if you are a good people person with excellent communications skills, you will get ahead of others.
2006-11-22 - Treat Everyone as a Person of Influence
We all know people who are very kind and professional to those people who are higher in their organisation, but talk down to all the others. They only treat the people of influence well. However, to gain the respect and help from everyone, we should treat everyone as a person of influence.
2006-11-23 - In the Direction of your Purpose
The best way to see if you are spending your time wisely is to ask yourself the question: Is what I am doing now in the direction of my purpose? Your purpose is the ultimate criteria on how you should be judging the use of your time. Ask this question each day to get more out of you day and more out of your life.
2006-11-24 - Reward People for the Small Steps too
Too often leaders are only rewarding or noticing the big achievements of their people. However, the small steps taken daily and weekly are what make the team and organisations successful. Recognise the small steps as well, and you will encourage your team and organisation on constant achievement.
2006-11-25 - Go Beyond your Comfort Zone
No one ever grows in life unless they move beyond their comfort zone. To get more from life, you need to do something different. Doing something different always takes you out of your comfort zone at first. Therefore, to grow and grow faster, learn to live beyond your comfort zone on a regular basis (really expanding your comfort zone each time).
2006-11-26 - Fear Feeds Procrastination
One of the biggest fuels for procrastination is fear. We are often not confident in our own abilities and procrastinate on the very actions that are necessary for our success. Acknowledge your fears, but have the courage to take the actions. Actions melt away the fears.
2006-11-27 - Focus on Things You Can Control
There's a really good test to see if you are being as productive as you could be. If the majority of your thinking and worrying time is on things out of your control, for sure you are not focused on what you could do. This results in you being not as productive as you could be. Focus only on things that you can control and see your productivity soar.
2006-11-28 - Adapt Before Others See the Need
Successful companies have stayed successful over time by learning to adapt before others. They see the need to adapt and make changes before their competitors even see the need. The need to adapt is always recognised first by the leaders of those successful companies. These leaders are always listening and learning from their people and the marketplace, and then see the need to adapt. How are your listening and learning skills?
2006-11-29 - You can't Give others what you don't Have
People who get ahead in life just make the decision to be happy. If you are happy, your attitude has a positive influence on others and this makes relationship building all that much easier. So, remember you can't give others what you don't have yourself.
2006-11-30 - Feed your Motivation every Day
Just as we need food every day to live, we need to feed our motivation every day as well. Food feeds our stomach, but motivation feeds our mind. Make feeding your motivation a daily habit just like eating.
